Romans 14:10–12Scripture
Our assignment today is Romans chapter 14. We're going to look at verses 10–12.
So I'll give you a moment to turn there with me.
Romans chapter 14, and then also I want you to turn to Matthew chapter 7, verse 1 only, that one verse. And maybe I'll start at Matthew chapter 7 and allow that verse to kick off our morning.
One of the most popular verses in the entire Bible is John 3:16. Many of you could actually quote it. You have memorized it. Many of you have memorized it, not because you were in some kind of Bible club, not because you were in quizzing and you had to memorize every word of that, but because that verse is so often quoted and used in the church and then even outside the church. We see it on many athletes and we see it in many places, and it's quoted all over the world, both in secular realms and non-secular realms. We are very familiar with it. You could quote it with me: For God so love the world. In case you're wondering if I forgot it, I did not.
Introduction
I wanted to hear you. And it's amazing, it's fairly universal, specifically in the church. Many of us know it, but there is another verse you may not be aware of how popular it has become, and that verse is, as popular in this particular culture, has become more popular than John 3:16. Many of you might not even know what that is, except for those who have thumbed to Matthew 7:1. But that verse says this: Judge not, that you may not be judged. Judge not, that you be not judged. That's prevalent in our culture, matter of fact, both in the secular world and in the non-secular world, outside the church and inside the church. This has become a popular mantra for the world. You don't have to live or be in relationship with anybody for any fair amount of time to have this come at you.
At some point in the relationship they will tell you, "It is not your place to judge me." Matter of fact, it is amazing how quickly those who do not hold true to the truths found in God's word will use this verse against you when it is convenient for them. They will throw this at you so quick your head will spin around, and they will reject the Bible in every other point of their life, but when it comes to being judged they will use this Scripture as their defense. They will not only use this Scripture as their defense, but they will come at you, question your love for them, your genuine care for them, and they will question your very Christianity if you ever use judgment of any sort. This is a problem in our culture, therefore, because this has become one of the most popular mantras, even equal to John 3:16, particularly in our culture. Then this has a shaping force to the way we read chapter 14 in Romans when it begins to tell us to be mindful and to not judge our brothers in Christ. Are you with me today? We'll just let that hang there for a second. It's speaking specifically of brothers in Christ. I won't even go any further, I'll let you just kind of meander off into wonderland and consider the ramifications of such a statement and the specifics of that statement regarding judgment. But when it talks about it in our culture, and because we are so, the world is so repulsed by any form of judgment at all, then that shapes how we read and interpret this Scripture. Here's the shorthand of this verse often used by many people today: You have no right to judge me.
This is what we believe inside and outside the church. In fact, we use this as a baseline for determining what genuine love looks like: love, true love, is void of any form of judgment.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 5:16
This then becomes problematic as we read the Bible, because many times in the Bible it commands us to use sound judgment. How then are we to not judge our brothers but use sound judgment? How is it that in this verse the Apostle Paul is commanding us to not pass judgment, but then in other verses in the Bible we are commanded to use sound judgment? So for us to have proper understanding of this text, we also have to have a comprehensive understanding of the way that judgment is used through the Bible. All right, some people will say, if you're judging me, you're not loving me. The verse we're studying this morning could in all likelihood be a companion passage to Matthew 7:1. Romans 14 could, let's read it together, Romans 14:10–12 sounds very much like Matthew 7:1. It would be very much and very similar, but with different wording. Verse 10: Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? So in case you're sitting here this morning and you're thinking about somebody else that needs to hear this, he beckons us in the second verse in a repeating tone, and you, in other words, and you have a problem with this. Not the other name that popped in your head that you hope is hearing this or listens back to it online.
You have a problem with this. Here's the problem, here's the problem: no matter how strong of a believer you are, because he's talking about the strong and the weak, no matter how strong of a believer you are, I know many strong believers who have sat in messages, and not just about judgment but about anything, and considered how somebody else might be impacted by this. You know what? You're using judgment there to determine that. Matter of fact, to be able to do that, you have now elevated yourself to an attitude and into a place of superiority, to a level such, in fact, that now you are looking down your nose at the other brother, hoping that they'll actually get this weak area in their life fixed because you're better than them. That's your brother you're talking about, and Christ. Some of you are maybe looking around going, "I wonder who does that?" All of you do that. All of us do that. We got problems times ten. We got problems in our own lives. So why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, not them, not the person who needs to hear, but you, why do you despise your brother? My wife has repeatedly been drawing attention to me that it is not just the judgment part that we all seem to get hung up on, but it's the despising part that we seem to not talk about at all when we look at these texts. There is a despising that happens. We look that up for a moment, just sit with that for a moment. I don't have time to talk about that, call Brook up, she'll share with you about the despising, because I've been hearing one thing after another about the importance of the despising part. See, the despising part shapes not just merely your attitudes but your behaviors towards men. We despise them, it affects how we live and how we act. For we will all stand before the judgment, for we will all stand before the judgment seat of God, for it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. News flash, no matter how strong of a believer you are, you ain't one of those weak ones in the church, but you're a strong one in the church, ain't nobody bowing before you, no matter how strong you are, because you ain't perfect and you're not righteous like him. That's a good reminder, because many of you think you're God, but you're not. Many of us think that we're at that standard. You know why? Because we judge at that standard. We compare what other people do and we use ourselves as the baseline of what should be done. Oh, come on now, that's good stuff right there.
And you ain't the baseline, baby. God is the baseline, and his baseline is way higher than your greatest strength.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 11:00
That's good. And so now God has then raised the standard. Now I know we want to sit around and we want to evaluate people's lives based on our life, and we want to use our good deeds and our wonderful behaviors and our good, and we want to use that as the baseline, but there is a higher baseline. This is why the Bible and the Lord constantly and angels constantly beckon us to keep our gaze heavenward, to keep our gaze Christward. Why? Because the standard or the baseline of Christ is always much higher than you, no matter how much you have elevated your goodness in your own mind. We all got baggage, we all got problems. So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. Notice here, the stumbling block and the hindrance is the judgment. It is connected to the judgment. It is connected to the judgment. It is connected to a standard that you set that is not based on sin but rather preferences. It's based on preferences, specifically your opinion of how an individual should function, what they should do, how they should act, how they should talk, the way they should live. It is an opinion of what you feel is best.
Your life ain't the baseline, baby, and you have opinions all the day long, but your opinions are not law.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 12:55
There is only one law, and it did not come from you. Right, there's only one law. Now parents, I know we have rules in our house, but there is one law. That's why, parents, it is essential that you know this
Point 1Sound judgment differs from passing judgment
Law. I want to balance this verse out, Romans, with other verses in the Bible, and I want to start today by saying this: every single person in here uses judgment every single day, multiple, ten if not hundreds of times a day. So then what is the difference between using judgment, sound judgment if you will, and passing judgment? What is the difference? We judge every day. We have to judge every day. I would encourage you that if you go to a doctor and you think to yourself, this is not a good doctor, I would encourage you that judgment is okay, and you should probably get a second opinion. That judgment might prevent you from going down a path that is dangerous. That's proper judgment. It is proper judgment to know that it's probably not the best idea to stick your head inside of the fireplace. That proper judgment says sticking my head in there, not so good, not so good. It is using proper judgment to know that riding in the car and sassing my wife is not in my best interest. It's not smart. Okay, the other day I saw a video on Instagram, it was pretty fantastic. Guy was an alligator wrangler and he decided to prove his prowess and then also to prove his sheer, unmistakable lack of fear regarding this creature. The alligator opened his mouth and he stuck his head in there, and then he pulled his head out and everyone cheered because it didn't get chopped off. It was amazing. Stood back in awe, and he began to do it again. He opened the alligator's mouth, the alligator's mouth opened up and he stuck his head in there, and the alligator, something happened, something blew in the alligator's mouth, and the alligator went up and he was rolling around and trying to get his head out of the alligator's mouth. This, ladies and gentlemen, is not using sound judgment. I would propose to you today that it would be in your best interest to judge whether or not you should be sticking things in alligators' mouths or not. So there are many things that we do in our day-to-day life, you can fill in the blank and you can consider them. There are things, I'm not going to go jump off a building. It's not using sound judgment. Gravity says I go splat when I jump off buildings. How do you know to not jump off buildings willy-nilly, crazy, silly? How do you know not to do that? Because you use judgment. But what is the difference between the judgment we use every day and passing judgment on your brother? There has to be a difference, because one is rebuked and the other is encouraged. What is the difference? Passing judgment, firstly, is looking beyond what a person says or what a person does and it is attempting to look into the very heart of the person, as if you actually had the ability to discern why they do what they do and what is at the foundation place in their heart. Judging the inside of a man's heart. Secondly, it's assuming you have the ability not only to judge a man's heart but determine whether or not an individual is saved. We've all been guilty of both of these, me included. How can you know if an individual is saved unless you have first judged his heart? And the reality is Paul rebukes us of this, and he says that it is not our duty to do either. The problem is, the better we know people, the more likely we are to pass judgment on them, amen, because now we're working with more information, and the more information you have, the easier it is to think you know about another individual. But how many of you know that you don't know about other individuals, even though you think you know about them? I mean, come on, I've been around Brook for 25 years. I actually, at times, believe that I know why she does what she does better than she knows why she does what she does. We've actually had the conversation. I've actually at times convinced her to believe that I know why she does what she does more than she knows why she does what she does. Are you with me today? But the reality is we're being rebuked for that, because the why and the heart and the insight is not up to men. It is only God who sees the heart, has the insight to know the heart of an individual, the why behind what we do, and it is his business, not ours. Oh, this is good. Oh man, I feel a little bit of conviction up in here for myself. All right, it's all right, that's okay, it's okay, I can handle it. It's good, it's good, it's painful but it's good. The better we know somebody, the easier it becomes to not judge their actions, not just judge that their actions are wrong, that's one thing, because I think we're supposed to use sound judgment regarding that, but also to pass judgment on the intentions behind the actions. I can look at any individual's action and say that's bad, because the Apostle Paul warns us to disassociate with people who are doing bad actions all the time, because that sucks you down a black hole of problems. So we have to judge whether an action's bad, we have to judge whether what someone is doing is bad. That kind of judgment is necessary.
But what I don't get to do is judge the why behind the what.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 20:58
That is moving from using sound judgment to passing judgment. So then the question that arises that I want to answer this morning with four different statements: why are we not allowed to pass judgment?
Point 2We lack the authority to judge
Since we know the difference between passing judgment and using judgment, why are we not allowed to do that? Well, I'm glad you asked. Number one, we don't have the authority to pass judgment. This answer is actually discovered in verse 10: Why do you pass judgment? Listen to this, don't miss it, listen to the authority part: Why do you pass judgment on your, how many of you have the verse? Brother. Huh?
Huh, that's interesting. Not son. Notice the difference in authority. Notice here that it's equals. Notice the lack of authority, because now you have been moved from a place of authority where you have the right to pass judgment or to enact discipline or to enact some kind of punishment. Now you are equals. How can a brother pass judgment on a brother? How can a brother discipline a brother? It is very interesting, because now he moves the guideline of you don't have the authority, you're equals. The brother relationship is a relationship between equals.
Passing judgment is an act of superiority, period.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 22:50
It's an act of superiority. So to pass judgment is to have a superior attitude. Oh man, remember where you stand in relation to God, because you're no superior, you're a peasant of all peasants. Philippians 2:1–4 says this: so if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there's any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Notice he levels the playing field between believers. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Notice there is no superiority, there is humility commanded, not superiority commanded, not "think of yourself more significant than others." Let each of you, let each of you look not only to his own interests but to the interests of others. To pass judgment on the brother is to assume superiority over another, and quite honestly, ladies and gentlemen, you don't have it. You don't have it. Paul clarifies here that God himself is the only one who has authority. You are not God. Contrary to the way you think and live, you're not God. You wouldn't say it in Sunday school class, you wouldn't say it in a small group, and you certainly wouldn't say you're God here today, but some of you act like it in your relationships, some of you act like it when things don't go your way, some of you act like it in church, some of you act like it at school, some of you act like it with your friendships, some of you act like it in your marriage, some of you act like it in your relationship, some of you act like it in your family. So some of you want your family, when you come home, to respond and bow down and worship at the throne of your awesomeness, but the reality is, and maybe, you know, and I think today most of us would be like, "Well, that's not me," but I'd like to poll your friends, I'd like to poll your significant other, and I would like to poll your family. I mean, I'm talking about a private poll, I'm talking about a private poll, the kind of poll that no one will really know who said what, but then ask them in conversations, does it seem as if you're the least important person in the room? Come on now, I'm trying to make this connect for all of us, because some of us are so self-aware where we have not only do we want people to worship us, we can't stop ourselves from worshiping us long enough to worship God, and even in our worship on Sunday morning it's really about how we feel and what we want and less about what God feels and what he wants. Can I get an amen up in here? I mean a sober one, right? We're not God. Paul clarifies here that God himself is the only one with authority.
The issue today is we live in a nation full of people with a God complex.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 26:48
That's a problem. So why can't we pass judgment on our
Point 3We lack the insight to see hearts
Brother? We don't have the authority to pass judgment. Number two, we don't have the insight to pass judgment. We don't have the insight.
Now I went to a breakfast yesterday, I mean I didn't go on time, but I went late, I went late, it was like 6:45 to 10, I mean what kind of obscene thing do we do at 6:45 in the morning? I'm certainly not eating breakfast, because my mouth isn't even awake enough to open, much less my eyes, but I went at 8:30. I had a wonderful breakfast. I got in a conversation with Kirk kind of about an experience I'm having with my knee. I have for the last two years, I haven't even been able to move my knee, I haven't been able to even, I mean like I'm in so much pain I can't even play basketball. When I go play basketball I stand there, post up, and if somebody tries to go around me, see you later, because I'm not moving, my knee hurts. I can't walk up the stairs, I ache in the middle of the night, sometimes I wake up just because it twisted wrong as I rolled over and I'm in pain. They had to actually take an x-ray to see what was wrong. You know why? Because they needed insight into the damage. Oh, so you're saying, "Well, Shawn, why didn't you get somebody like Kirk to look at your knee and to tell you his insight regarding your knee?" It was amazing how many people will, you, I'm just going to pause here for a second, because I'm going to put this in a spiritual realm, because temporarily we see that, but in the church today we allow people to speak over our lives because we think they have a next level of insight to have insight into our life, and we take their word for something over God's word and we call it prophecy. We can have conversations all day long about prophecy and the use of it in our current context and in the biblical context and then even in the church, but let me tell you, there are abuses beyond measure in the church today regarding these things, and just because someone says they have insight doesn't mean they have insight. That's why we need to depend on God's word, because this is truth, it's absolute and every way, and if you need to get a word from God, read this, and if you need a verbal one, read it out loud, because that's fact and there is no gray area in it. Are you with me today? And we have exchanged complete inerrancy to chase people to give insight in areas they can no further see past your skin than anyone else. This is good stuff. So I had to go to the doctor, they had to have insight so they know how to treat the issue. Notice now that when they do the treatment, it's called SoftWave, and they shoot lasers into my knee to heal it, to break things up. Notice here, they have to get in, they say the penetration of the water and the laser combination to pierce through my knee, it has to go beyond six inches, in which my knee is not six inches long, so it is shooting laser shockwave thingers through my knee, through it, in there, through there, it's piercing. The word of God is piercing like this, separating bone and marrow.
Notice it's not the word of men but it's the word of God. Some of you need surgery spiritually, but you're wanting men to divide what only God's word divides. You need God to separate the cancer from the healthy cells, the issues of sin from the issues of righteousness, and the only dividing factor in God's word provided is his word that can pierce between those two things without causing damage. It's only his word, yet you go to men. I don't know where I'm going right now, but
I want to tell you something: we trust too much in men, thinking they have insight that they are not equipped with.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 31:31
Why do we not pass judgment? Because we don't have the insight to pass judgment, only God does. Jeremiah 17:9: the heart is deceitful above all things, deceitful above all things. The heart, you mean to tell me, Shawn, this probably is just applied to the weak people in the church, correct? The heart is deceitful above all things. Whose heart? The weak people's heart? No, the strong people's heart too. That means the mentors you look up to and trust, guess what's wrong with their heart inside? It's deceitful above all things. "Well, Shawn, I thought we were given a new heart." -Huh. "I thought our heart was made righteous before God." -Huh. "How do you grow in righteousness then?" Paul says, what is wrong with me? Because at the same time I don't do the things I do want to do, and I do things that I don't want to do. Did he not have a new heart? There is an issue, a struggle if you will, in the hearts of men, even strong men, even mentors, even pastors. And desperately sick. I'm not talking about "that's sick, yo." So I'm sorry, I know that was the nerdiest of all nerdy things I could do, because that word is not used, that's like an 80s word, and like the teens are like, they've just checked out, this guy's cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, you know what I mean. But he ain't saying "that's sick," he's saying your heart is sick. Who can understand it? Listen, listen to the question posed: Who can understand it? In essence, in other words, no one can. But who? Oh, so you mean to tell me that you can't even understand your own heart? So when I had the conversation with Brook, it's like, "I think I know why you're doing what you're doing before you know what you're doing," and the reality is this Scripture says neither one of you do. I mean, "Shawn, I know you think you do." She don't know, that's right. You're right, right about that, you got something right, congratulations. But neither do you. You don't know either. Your own heart is wicked. How can you judge your own heart if it's wicked when you think it's awesome? The reality is many of you are going to get shocked when you get to heaven, because there's going to be many things that you did with your heart and you're going to go, "I did this in your name, and I did this in your name," and when you're recounting, as it says in the Scripture, you stand before him and you begin to recount everything you've done, every idle word you spoke, every idle word you didn't speak, and everything you did, and these things that you quote, thinking, "I'm getting an A-star for that one," and he goes, "That's a filthy rag." Some people, matter of fact, will think they have received Christ, have not received Christ, not believed in him, not had faith in him, and they will turn to the things that they've done and that are good and they say, "I've done this in your name, I've done this in your name, I've done this in your name," thinking it's good, but they don't even know their heart. They think their heart did it for the good, they think they're saved, and God will be like, "No, go to hell." So what does that tell us? We don't even know our own heart, and we can't even always tell whether what we did is for good or was for bad, whether it was for God or was for us. We can't even determine it. So let me help you, why is that important for us?
Because if you can't even determine your own heart, it should disarm you from trying to determine someone else's.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 35:52
I mean, that should help you today. I mean, this is what's helping me. I can't even figure out my own heart, I don't have time to figure out someone else's, because it ain't going to work, I can't even determine mine. All the Scripture helps us. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, for the LORD sees not as man sees. Man looks on the outward appearance. Notice the limitation of man's perspective. It is not even skin deep. It doesn't even get into the skin, it's surface level. Only God can see beyond the skin. But the LORD looks at the heart. He didn't just see through the skin, through the epidermis, he gets in there, all the way through the skin and the sinew and the muscles and the tendons and the ligaments and the bones, I might already have said bones, and the blood and the veins and the nerves, all the way into the heart, and then he can see into there too. And it's not even just talking about the chambers in your heart, whether or not they're pumping properly or not. This is not even just like a doctor can see when he runs an MRI and he divides up your heart so he can see at what level, at what health level it's operating at, that's even superficial too. He can see the intent of a heart, not just its chambers. That's some sin right there, that's some sin. Hebrews 4:13: And no creature is hidden from his sight. I know you think you got away with some stuff, but he saw it. Some of you think you get away from stuff because you put off a good front.
Most people have only met your ambassador, the ambassador that you put forth of you. They have not met you.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 37:53
And some people get snookered because they marry people, but they married the ambassador of an individual, they didn't marry the individual, and when they get married they realize who the individual is. Are they got snookered? Because we would rather put forth a version of us that is not truly us, but God knows, and you might be able to trick your neighbor, but you can't trick God. He knows the intentions of your heart. Luke 16:15 says, And he said to them, You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
What men celebrate is an abomination to God.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 38:41
Oh, consider that with me for a second, because there are things we celebrate inside the life of the church alone. Men celebrate it, but it's an abomination to God. I only have time to go into that. Do you know how many things that I have realized we have done in the name of Christ that I later realized was an abomination to him? Oh, it's sobering when you see it. Listen, you don't have authority and you don't have the insight to pass judgment. One, you don't have authority, two, you don't have insight, and here's the thing: people can do the same thing to you that you've done to them, and when they do it they're evil, but somehow or another you give yourself a pass when you do the same thing. Why is that? I believe it's because we attempt to weigh the intentions of our heart, but let us not too quickly forget we don't even have the capability of judging that. And so what you give yourself a pass for, when you stand before him, he might not, regardless of what you have measured as good intentions or not. I'm trying, man. Let us not forget, although we think we know our hearts and their intentions, we just don't. Wives, do you hear me? Husbands, do you hear me? Single people, do you hear
Point 4We lack the purity to judge
Me? Young people in here today, do you hear me? We don't have the authority, we don't have the insight. Number three, we lack the purity to pass judgment. This one is the most sobering for me. Paul refers here to strong and weak, not right and wrong. Man, just because you're strong doesn't mean you're entitled, and strength certainly is not perfection.
Strength is indicative of growth. It's not evidence of perfection.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 41:19
You too, even the strong people in the house, will stand before God. God is not going to say, "You're strong in your faith, so you're not going to take long to go through this whole, all the meditations of your heart and thoughts and life and all that, this is going to be real quick because you're a superstar, baby." That's not happening when you stand before the throne. Not to be a downer, but it's not going to happen. I mean, it's not happening. And for those of you today, it's like, "I am, I'm an A-plus, two, matter of fact, I got extra credit." Oh, that will be a sobering day for you, won't it? Notice here what you are strong in. You're strong, so what, this is the most important thing, what are you what are these people strong in? They're strong in their faith. Oh man, I'm meddling today, but just listen to me for a second, because God's been meddling with me, so it serves you right. Like you just get what I've been getting. They're strong in their faith. What is faith? Faith is a gift from God that no man can boast in. But so before you get too uppity, remember that was a gift. And then in case you're going, "Well, but I'm strong in what he gave, I mean I took that and I stirred it up," in case you get there, I want to remind you, God, we learned in Romans, gives a measure of faith to each one. We all stand before God, and guess what, no one will receive a passing grade, even the strong ones. Some of you are going to go, "Well, but Christ." That's right, Christ receives a passing grade, and you're hidden in him, but you failed. And in case you're wondering who failed, all of you did. All of you in the church, your mama, your daddy, your granny, and your auntie, M, they all failed. "Well, what about so and so? They're a Holy Roller." They're a Holy Roller to failure, because the Bible says we have all sinned and what? Failed. Fallen short of what? A passing grade. So why do we trust in Christ? Because he is the only one who lived without sin, who died as an atonement for our failure, and because we believe in him we are hidden in the only one who passed.
Are you with me? So don't get too up and think, "Well, I'm going to get into heaven by the skin of my teeth, it's going to be a C minus, but I'm coming in with a passing grade." No, you failed.
Everyone gets an F, even the people who believe in Christ.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 45:10
But the people who believe in Christ get an F, but get hidden in his A. That's good stuff, man. That makes you want to just lose it. Makes me want to lose it in gratefulness.
Your judgment is revelatory of your wickedness.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 45:21
You passing judgment, not just sound judgment, we already talked about that, right, we have to use that, but passing judgment on another person is revelatory of your wickedness. If you are constantly passing judgment on someone, I might respond to you with this: it takes one to know one. "Shawn, that's harsh, man, that's harsh." When I judge the motives of another, the reason I do so is because I'm wicked. You did that to me because you're wicked, you did that to me because you're evil. I know that when you did that to me you're wicked because when I do that to you, I know I'm wicked. What is the guideline for wickedness? Your own wickedness. How would you even know what wickedness is if you weren't wicked? Listen to this from James Edwards, I love this, I'm going to close on that: On that day all pretense will be dispelled, and all moral judgments and altruistic pronouncements will be exploded as self-serving masks of pride. All gifts and sacrifices will be seen in the light of their real motives, and all striving, hopes, and goals will be judged only from the perspective of whatever faith and love inspire. Wow, that's good. Fourth and final
Point 5We lack the occasion to judge
Reason we shouldn't pass judgment. One, we don't have the authority, two, we don't have the insight, three, we lack purity to pass judgment, and four, and the final thing, we lack the occasion to pass judgment. The occasion has been set for judgment and it is not here. Oh, that's good. Come on now, listen to me, it ain't in your house, it ain't in your car, crazy enough, the Bible said it ain't even in church. The occasion will be when you and your brother stand before the throne of God on your own. That's the occasion. One, you lack the authority, two, you lack the insight, three, you lack purity to pass judgment, and final, you lack the occasion to pass judgment.
Now is not the time. The time will come and the time has been set. You do not get to set the time.
