The message
he assigns the storms to us as a testing point, as a point of discipline, as a point of refinement to help us to get us to a place where he not only initiates faith in our life to follow him, but he perfects it in our life. And these kind of moments really are their refining, right? How many of you know that
You can't refine gold without a little bit of fire? And sometimes God will assign fire. He will let it lick your life to get you to where he wants you to be.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 2:19
I love that. I think it's pertinent for us this morning. And behold, there arose a great storm in the sea so that the boat was swamped. I love swamped because if you were to take a machete and hack your way through a swamp, okay, not only is it full of water, and that's difficult. Not only is it you are entangled by the mud and the underneath the water and anything else that might tangle you also have the jungle to contend with. So you have the water, what's beneath the water, what's above the water to hack and trudge yourself through. And the reality is there are many things in life you will face that will entangle you.
Are you with me today? And all those entanglements then become stumbling blocks and issues for us in the flesh that prevent us from walking with the kind of faith we profess with our lips. Okay, I wanted to talk about that too. That was a brief point, but I just I had to delete that one too. There's a lot to talk about in here. And they went and they woke him saying, "Save us. We're perishing." No, he does not have narcolepsy. He has peace.
Narcolepsy is when you fall asleep for no reason, right? So, because I say words wrong, like last night I said like a Sith in the hand of a harvester, but it's actually scythe. And my son came behind me and said, "are we talking about Star Wars? Are we talking about harvesting?" And I thought that was rude because I was trying to share something to people.
So I say things wrong. What was I talking about? What? Narcolepsy. No, he wasn't sleeping because of narcolepsy. He was sleeping because he had peace. And this is the kind of peace honestly that I long for. We're troubled today. And honestly, it doesn't take much to trouble us, right? And oftentimes, can I just can I just maybe a little confessional time here?
I've often found the longer that I live and the longer that I walk with God, I found that the bigger things in life don't trouble me as much as the little insignificant things.
Is that just me? Is that or is it just because I'm a man or what? What is that? Because the bigger it is, I go into I go into solution mode and I'm so buried in trying to solve the problem that's so enormous that I don't even have time to move it to anxiousness. I'm just going to work to try to resolve the problem. But it's the little things that really get me.
It's the sprinkling that annoys me the most. Okay. Now, if a tornado coming because we've had several of them coming to Pleasant Hill, if it dropped down, if I went out on my porch, because that's what I do. I when the bell when the horn rings, I don't run down. Brooke runs down with any of the photos and stuff she can grab. I run out.
She runs down. I run out onto the porch and I'm out on the porch. And if a tornado drops on my neighbor's house and lifts it up, guess what I'm gonna do in the midst of that kind of a storm? I'm gonna run. If i'm outside and I'm standing at the end of my driveway and a tornado comes down, if the wind is blowing and hail is moving and rain is falling and the tornado hits, I'm running. And I'm not so concerned about getting hit by hail.
And I don't care about getting wet by the rain. I simply am getting away from what is disastrous. But when it sprinkles, why does it have to rain and mess up my hair?
You know what I mean? Now this shirt is wet. Going to be wet all day long. It's a nuisance. It's an irritation. It's see this
The larger the storm is, the more you don't worry about the idiosyncrasies of life. It's the small storms that really get to you.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 6:52
Now, I understand this was a big storm and I'm not trying to, you know, get us away from the text, but I want you to think for a minute because there are things that swamp you that aren't as big as you think. Because it's the big things in life that it's the little things in life honestly that entangle you. I love that they use the word swamp here.
And he was sleeping and he had peace in his heart. And he said to them, "why are you afraid?" Well, I got about 10 reasons. Sit down. Let me show you a proresenter presentation. There's water coming on board. The sail just ripped in half. It broke. It snapped. We're going to drown. It did it didn't even it didn't even move the problem. They don't even move the problem into the future of what potentially could come. We are perishing.
We are in the midst of dying. We are in the midst of perishing. We are in the midst of trouble. Guess what? Jesus was too. But the way he handled it is so different. And he said, "Oh, you of little faith." And then he rose and he rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm and the men marveled.
Some people will attach the marvel to the delivery. But they marveled at the man who had power over the storm.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 8:31
That's right. That's who they marveled at. Now, you need to understand that this places him beyond a point of being simply a prophet, a teacher. This moves him beyond the realm of being somebody who had authority. And that sense, this made him God because only God could mess with the weather.
Even when Moses put his staff down and the sea parted, it said God parted it. When a prophet spoke and something divine happened in nature in the Old Testament, it said God moved and God sent fire and God did that. God is the only one who can control nature. So here we have the mat, they have the author of Matthew saying to us, he has authority over this, he has authority over this, he has authority over this, he has authority over nature. This makes him, this moves him from being a teacher to being a prophet to being somebody with authority and with power to being God.
Amen. This is why they marvel.
They thought they were in a boat with a teacher and a prophet and a good man and they realized they were in the they were in a boat with God.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 9:54
That's huge. To think that God of the universe would get in the boat with you. That he'd float around on that which he hurled into the abyss with his words and he would ride it out with you. That's pretty huge. That's beautiful in and of itself. And then the men marveled, saying, "what sort of man is this that even the winds and the waves obey him?" This is them working out this is no man at all.
This is a man who is also God. I titled this sermon sent into the storm. And you need to understand God is not afraid to send you to storms. Matter of fact, he assigns them for you.
They are a place of testing. How many of you would study in college and high school back in the good old days when you went to school? How many of you would study if you never had a test? What would be the point?
Why would we study if we didn't have a test? And so God is preparing him. He's teaching them. He's not just teaching them with his lips as he sits down on the mountain, but he walks down the mountain and he begins to demonstrate a life that we should live and the authority that we can walk that he walks in and that we can walk in because we walk in him. Now, I'm not saying you should calm storms. That's not what I'm saying. But I am saying there is a new level of authority you walk in when you walk in him. He's teaching us. He's teaching them how to walk in greater trust in him.
What good is it to follow somebody that you don't trust?
Pastor Shawn Gray · 11:52
This word here faith and I think it's good to distinguish it is not a salvific faith. It is an it is an issue of trust.
That's what this is. Now, in the English language, when we take the word faith, we apply it the same way all through Scripture. But it's not applied that way. And I will say this here, it's very important for you to understand when he says, "Oh, you of little faith." He's saying, "you don't you trust me very little, especially after all we just went through." But notice this, even a little trust is still trust.
We speak to the diminishing nature of the faith because it's little. But later Jesus says, "you don't need a lot of faith. You just need a faith the size of a mustard seed." So the problem is not with the size of the faith. The problem is what it's in. If I take a little mustard seed of faith and I put it in a Brooke has pots everywhere now cuz she's just rotating plants.
She's putting plants in there now. She keeps them alive. So, they're just more and more. And we're going to have a greenhouse soon. It'll be the gray greenhouse. Is it gray? Is it green? I don't know. It's the gray green house. And so she if she but she took that seed and she put it in a pot of rocks.
That'd be hard and that wouldn't grow. The issue is not the seed. The issue is the container.
Are you with me? So let's not talk to about the diminishing nature of faith because he if God if God in Scripture gives us a measure of faith each that we need then he gives us enough that's not the problem. The problem is the entanglements in our flesh. I think it's very important for us to understand that before we get into this text.
The storm is not proof that Jesus a is absent. The storm is the place where Jesus exposes where your faith really rests.
Some storms do not come because you missed God. Some storms come because you obeyed him.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 14:14
Okay. Are you awake? Did you hear that? Some storms don't come because you missed them or you disobeyed. Some storms are assigned to you because you obeyed him. I don't think we can say this quick enough to new converts. Are you with me?
I you know why? Because he tells a parable of a seed and a sewer. He talks about seed being thrown on different ground and being plucked up by trouble and opposition and birds of the air and hard ground and plucked up and all of this and a storm comes and it scatters the seed and you need to understand winds blow and scatter the seed. You need to understand that sometimes trouble will come and it will come because of obedience not disobedience.
Disciples did not end up in the boat because they rebelled. They ended up in the boat because they followed Jesus.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 15:19
The text says when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. They were not running from his word. They were responding to his word. That is where many of us get confused. As I said earlier, we think obedience should exempt us from trouble.
How many of you have ever gotten at a time where you a little troubles hit your life and you cried out to God, probably the first time you prayed in a while, what's up? I thought I'd been obeying you, man. I Let me give you a list. I go to church. I read my Bible more than Sam, Bob, Sulie, or Susie, or Sally. I know they don't read it.
You would never pray that in Sunday school or in a small group, but you pray like that in private probably. I've done this in your name. I've done I'm I'm quoting myself. I've done this in your name. I've done that in your name. I've done this in your name. Have done and this is how you going to treat me.
I don't pray like that no more but I have prayed like that. How many of you have ever prayed something in that realm when a trouble hit?
Me too. Me too, guys. You know why we do that? Because we think we're exempt from storm. We read last night at the campground Hebrews 11. I love Hebrews 11. It is my favorite. It has become my life chapter.
By faith, this person did this. And by faith, this person did that. And by faith, listen, it by faith, this person was rebuked. And by faith, this person was disciplined. And by faith, this person had babies when they shouldn't. And that by faith, this person this person had a family member that just what just came out of the grave. That family member just came out of the grave and came back to life and they were saved from fire. They were saved from storm. They were healed from this and they were healed from that. And then it switches. They were cut in half. They were their intrails were brought out. They were nailed to crosses by faith. All that happened.
You know what's the hardest? When somebody else is getting delivered and you've been assigned a storm.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 17:59
That really is a bummer. That's a bummer. Because we think we live in a world where God's fair. How many of you have ever met somebody who seems like everything they touch they win? Everything they touch turns to gold. They're always being delivered.
And God just wants I get the second part of Hebrews 11. I'm constantly getting cut in half and constantly in storms. I've been in prisons. I'm beaten all the time. That's my course in life.
When will the testing end? They ended up in the boat. Because they followed him. The text says because they followed him. Listen, they weren't running from his word. They were responding to it. This like this is the ideal churchman and that is where many of us are confused.
Sometimes the will of God leads you into waters you can't control.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 19:16
Oh, and there's the crux of the problem, folks. You're not in control. Well, if I say an incantation, mix it with the Scripture, then I'll get out of it. Wrongaroon.
You do that. You turn Scripture into witchcraft. You do that and see what that does for you. Sometimes God, you call on God and he will deliver and sometimes he won't. In case you didn't know because some for some of us today that live in word of faith to a degree that's unhealthy. I think we should speak words in faith but I don't think we should have an expectation that just because we declare something we will be delivered from something. We need to be cautious about that. I'm I'm going to declare that today. You need to be cautious about that. You need to be careful about that.
I believe Jesus said, "Hook a brother up. Let this go pass. And God said, "I don't think so." There were times when people prayed to be delivered from prison. Angels came in, doors opened up, earthquake, they walked out. At times they stayed and they were beaten. Pretty sure they all prayed for delivery. There is no incantation that delivers you.
His purposes will reign.
Sometimes his purpose is for you to be delivered and sometimes it is for you to persevere. But you are at greatest risk of not trusting God outside the storm than you are in it.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 20:57
Come on now. This track with me here. You this is crazy. Let me tell you, my prayer life is never healthier than when I'm in trouble. Cuz when everything's going good, my phone lines are typically open.
Are you with me today? Am I the only one in here today that's like this? But trouble has a way of keeping you on your knees before the Lord. Sometimes sometimes you be stubborn. That's all right. But I am too. And God has to keep you on your knees because otherwise you'd flee from his hand which he promises he'll never let you out of.
You're like and I like control. I like a control you. I like control in the smallest of things. Like when I'm riding in a plane and somebody crosses their leg across the center line. Are you with me today? Like I fly a lot now. So when a guy and he's God's child and all and I should love and adore him and I should just when he sleeps I should just lay his head on my on his shoulder and be like over here brother I'm happy to be a pillow for you cuz God created you and loves you. No. But when his head crosses the center line, I want to blow a horn and be like, "you crossed it."
You with me today? How many of you have a sibling in your family and you ride in the back seat and they cross the line? How many of you, your parents, when you were little, your parents had to blindly whoop people in the back because y'all be fighting over who crossed the center line. And my sister, she never crossed it after my dad got her one time. He whooped her. And I was like, "Finally." Cuz she was the ultimate manipulator in our family. I hope you watch this.
I hope you watch this video. Oprah and she would always get me in trouble, but one time he caught her in the mirror. He gave her a whooping the likes the southern bell had never experienced. You know what I mean? And cuz she is a sweet little southern bell and she'd get away with everything. And then she didn't ever cross it again. But let's here's the middle line.
She'd be like this for eight hours while we drove somewhere. She would do that the entire time and she'd be like, "That's what she'd do." What in the world am I talking about?
Sometimes we want to be in control of not just listen,
We can't even be in control of oursel, but we want to be in control of everyone else.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 24:21
Amen. See, this is what he's breaking down in you. Want to control the storm and you want to control the environment. You want to control nature. You want to control what happens to you. You want to control your neighbor. You want to control whether someone goes over the middle line or not. You want to control that person and this person and that pastor and that person.
You want to control your wife. You want to control your husband. You're good luck with that. I've been married for 20 something years. 28 years I think we're at now and I Brooke don't even know. We just we quit counting. Like what's the point when you go past 20? You know what I mean? We're married a long time. You know 28 years or something like that we've been married and I'll tell you this. I can't control her and she can't control me. You know who I can control? Me.
We want to control everybody else including God. We want him to jump when we say jump. We want him to behave. When we say behave, we want him to do what we want. We want our will done on earth as it is in heaven. We don't want his will done on earth as it is in heaven. We want control of that.
And never is there a place where this is more real. Our desire for control than when we get into trouble.
Sometimes the greatest enemy of faith is strength without surrender.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 25:48
So the question today is not will storms come. Of course they will. They will come. They will come in an abundance. They will come to discipline. They will come to change. The question is when the storm comes, where is your faith?
Where is your faith? Don't freak out. I know what time it is. Point one. I know what time it is. It's going to be quick. I just Everybody, it's going to be okay. You can't control me. Just we just talked about that. Remember in my introduction the storm reveals the limit of your strength. I want the storm reveals several things. Three things in fact. The first thing is the storm reveals the limit of your strength.
Good thing is he's strong enough for both of us. That's a good thing. Matthew tells us there arose a great storm on the sea so that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Everything begins when they push off as routine. And this is let me tell you the routines of life will disenchant you. We become disenchanted by the routines of life.
Church atti attendance can disenchant you from your initial engagement and salvation with Christ. There is a difference between the week someone gets saved and after 30 years of coming to church disenchantment routines of life. The you have a kid the first day you give birth, ladies, then you go home and that kid be crying a lot. Nothing will disenchant you quicker.
Disenchantment happens when things that are normal happen over and over again. I mean, routines are dangerous.
God sometimes has to shock you out of your routine to get you to a place where he can see where your heart really is.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 28:06
They pushed off in familiar water, in a familiar boat, in a familiar path, in a familiar way. These guys, many of them, okay, we know four of them already called. Matthew's called in chapter nine, which is the next chapter. So, he may or may not be in the boat. Most commentators believe he ain't there yet. But what's happened here is many of them we know are well and well-versed on this water. They're wellversed in push.
They're wellversed in storms particularly on this body of water. Sometimes God has to get you out of what is routine to get you to engage and trust in him. Because if you don't, if he doesn't move you beyond what's routine, shock you out of your routine, your disenchanted way of seeing life, you'll trust in yourself. See,
Oftentimes storms are a service to you to und disenchant you from your disenchantment.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 29:18
A boat ride, a familiar sea, experienced men, normal conditions, a suddenly routine becomes crisis. The calm journey becomes chaos. The known place becomes dangerous. The boat that carried them now feels like it may bury them.
That's what storms do. Storms revealed the limit of the human control. They had experience. That's experience wasn't enough. That's God's greatest gift to you is to move you beyond what you control. They had skill, but their skill wasn't enough. That's God's greatest gift to you is to move you into a place where your skill can't substain sustain you.
They had strength, but their strength wasn't enough. Men and women today,
The greatest gift God could give you is to move you to a place that's beyond what your strength can sustain.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 30:26
They had knowledge, but their knowledge was not enough. See, some of you intellectuals in the house, one of the greatest things that God can do to you is to move you beyond what your knowledge can sustain.
The very thing they knew how to handle became the very thing they could not survive without Jesus. The storm revealed the limits of their strength. This is a word for somebody because you thought you could handle your marriage wrong.
You thought you could handle your money. You thought you could handle the diagnosis. You thought you could handle the pressure on your own. You thought you could handle your future or grief for yourself.
But then the water started stirring in your life and rising. And you need to know the storm did not come to destroy you. The storm came to deliver you from the illusion that you got this on your own.
And if ever there was a time in the journey as they followed him to get a picture that they're not in control, it's at the beginning.
There are some things God will always that will allow to shake you so that what cannot save you will stop ruling you.
Your gift cannot be your God. Your money cannot be your mercy. Your wisdom cannot be your refuge. Your strength cannot be your savior.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 32:24
The storm teaches the soul to say, "I do not have enough in me, but I have Christ with me." That's what he's teaching. Number two, the storm reveals the direction of your faith. The text says Jesus was asleep.
Th this sentence is stunning, honestly. The wind is raging. The waves are lapping over the edge of the boat. The boat's feeling filling up with water. The disciples are quite honestly in a freakout moment. And Jesus is just sleeping.
And this is where faith gets tested. Track with me here. I think it's important that he's sleeping here. And you might have thought about several things. I thought about this. This is where faith gets tested. Not when Jesus seems active. Not when Jesus is healing. Not when Jesus is delivering. Not when Jesus is talking and preaching from the mountain and making feasts out of lunches.
Not when Jesus seems immediately available. Faith gets tested when Jesus is quiet.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 34:04
Oh, and if you've walked with him any amount of time, I promise you've come to this place. It's where disenchantment takes you. It's where the routines of life take you. Silence and the disciples wake him saying, "Save us, Lord. We're perishing, man." Now, do not miss the mercy in this.
Their faith is not mature, but it is moving in the right direction. Be encouraged. Their faith is frightened, but it runs to Christ. You need to see the positive in this, not just the negative in this. Their faith is trembling, but it cries to Jesus.
Their faith does not have perfect language, and neither does yours, but it has the right address.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 35:06
Lord, save us. I mean, sometimes faith doesn't sound very polished. You should hear my prayers. Sometimes faith sounds like help.
Help. Yes. Okay. Yesterday. Yesterday I went on a canoe. It was pretty wide canoe. It was Bruce's canoe. He has like these wooden things that have downriggers that go off the side. He we didn't get the downriggers. We just got the canoe cuz we thought we were boss hog and all. And we went out there. Then everybody wanted to get on there. So I'm on there with Landon. He's on the front. I'm on the back. And then we had Tanner and Hannah come up and Tanner wanted to fish. But hannah wasn't going to miss the excursion.
There was something along the lines of I said, "I'm getting off this thing." And she said, "Sit down." And I had like a 17-year-old bass bossing me around. I was like, "Yes, ma'am." Because I've just learned my mama taught me when a woman tells you to sit. I sat down and she said, "I'm going." Well, honey, it's going to be unbalanced. That's what Tanner said. And she said, "I'm going." And she got on.
And I thought we were going to die the whole time, especially at the part at the part where she was saying she had a fish. And it was the funniest thing I've ever experienced in my entire life. And I was pulling the pole and I was like, "there ain't no fish on there. It's just the weight of the worm. It's it's no fish on there. And she's like, I really do. I think it's a whopper, you know, like and I was like, there's no fish on there. And I'm moving the pole and there's no fish. And all of a sudden, she pulls it up and there's a fish that big.
I kid you not, I have a photo. You can come ask me after church. I'll show you. It was that big. And she, instead of just holding it and letting it flop so I can get a photo, I like, "Oh, you really did have one on the line." Sort of.
She began to fling it in fear till it hit my face and hit the person in front of her and we almost capsized the boat.
It was crazy. I promise I say these things and I know that it has something to do with my sermon. Then I have to take a while to think about it. We almost capsized over that. Sometimes faith does not sound polished. Sometimes, oh, help me. There was a little bit of that. We're going to die. Cuz we almost capsized cuz she was out of control.
She was out of control. I hope she's not here today. She is. It was crazy. Was it not that big? Was it not that big? This is not a fish story. Look, she so, it was fun. We had fun, but we there was a little bit of help me. We're going to drown. Some Sometimes faith says, "I'm drowning." Sometimes faith sounds like, "Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief." Sometimes faith is not a shout of victory, folks. It's not a beautiful worship song where your hands are lifted and you're worshiping him for all his faithfulness in the weak.
Sometimes faith is a whisper while you're singing.
But listen, I've had many moments in my life where I have been weak. I've had little faith, little trust in God in the midst of my greatest trouble. But
Weak faith that runs to Christ is better than confident strength that never calls on him.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 39:11
We should celebrate them. We shouldn't smack their hands and ask them to bend over so we can whoop them with our sense of bitterness.
Aka they didn't have the spirit and you do. What's your problem? Are you with me today? Not to bust your chops, but I'm just saying they're operating without the gift and the fulfillment that those who lived by faith in Hebrews 11 live the type of lives that we only dream to without the promise given them.
We should celebrate that they ran to Jesus even though it was weak. Some of us are waiting until we feel strong enough to pray. Brooke, will you get me a tissue?
Some of us are waiting until we feel strong enough to pray. Listen, pray weak.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 40:25
Amen. That's better. Thank you. Some of us are waiting until we feel holy enough to come to Jesus. Come needy.
Some of us are waiting until we feel stable enough to worship him. Worship shaking because Jesus is not offended by the cry of a desperate disciple.
He's the savior. So cry to him. Storm reveals the direction of your faith. Cry to him from the boat. Cry to him in the wind. Cry to him while the water's rising. Cry to him before you understand what he is doing. The storm reveals whether you run inward or you run upward.
It reveals whether you trust your hands or his word. It reveals whether your peace comes from calm circumstances or from the presence of Christ in the midst of your greatest trouble.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 41:27
Number three and final point, the storm reveals the glory of your savior.
Amen. Oh man, this is good. It's the best part, man. Then Jesus rises, right? I love that, man. You think a sound happens whenever he stood up? You know what I mean? I love it. He rebukes the wind and the sea and there is a great calm.
Not a gradual calm, not a puttering out, an immediate calm, not a partial calm.
It didn't move from a storm and hail to a drizzle. It's done. Not a negotiated calm, a great calm. You know why? The storm runs face to face with its master. The waves hear the voice that made them.
The wind bows before the word who spoke creation into existence. Now, Genesis tells us this. It says God said in Genesis, "Let there be light." And there was light.
Now Jesus stands in the boat, speaks to the sea, and it obeys. Listen,
This is not a miracle of rescue. This is a revelation of identity.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 43:19
Yes. The disciples asked, "what sort of man is this that even the winds and the waves obey him?" See that question? That is the question behind this storm. Who is Jesus?
As I said before, he's not merely a teacher or a prophet or a moral example or a religious voice among many. He's the Lord of glory, the creator standing inside creation, man. He is God, the son in human flesh. The winds obey him. The waves obey him. The sea obeys him. And now the question comes to us. Do we?
There's a picture, right?
It is possible to marvel at his power and still resist his authority.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 44:20
I think that's what Matthew is getting to.
He has authority over all these things that bow. But do we? It is possible to believe he can calm a storm and still refuse to surrender your life. The storm is preaching a sermon the likes the world has never heard. The sea is preaching a message. The wind is preaching to our hearts and the silence after his storm is preaching too. And here's the sermon.
Jesus is Lord. Lord over creation, Lord over crisis, Lord over fear, Lord over the church, Lord over your soul. That's the sermon this storm is preaching. So, where's your faith? After Jesus calms the storm, he asked the disciples, "Why are you afraid? Oh, you of little faith." Notice what he doesn't ask. He does not ask, "Where's your courage? Where's your sailing ability?
Where's your experience?" He asks about faith. See
Some of you rely so much on your skills that you forsake your faith because the issue beneath the fear is faith.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 45:44
So I think the question should come into the room today. Where is your faith? Is it in your money? What happens when your job disappears? Is it in your health?
What happens when you get a phone call and it's the doctor and you have stage four something?
What happens? Is it in your family? What happens when your relationship fractures? Is it in your ability? What happens when you can't perform like you used to? Is it in you being in control of everything? See what happens when life refuses to obey your plans? Because it will. Somewhere in your life, it will. Faith is not pretending the storm is not real. Faith is not denying the wind.
Faith is not ignoring the water. Faith is not acting like Christians never tremble.
Faith is resting your whole life on Christ. Faith says, "I do not control the sea, but I know the one who does."

That's what faith is. So bring him your fear. Bring it from panic to peace. Bring him your weakness. Bring him your sinking heart.
Cry out to him. Lord, save me. Where's your faith? I'll just tell you today, and I'll close with this. My faith is in Christ. The one who entered the boat, the one who rebuked the sea, the one who went to the cross, the one who rose from the grave, the one who will carry his people safely home. So when the waves rise, remember this.
The boat may shake, the water may rise, the wind may roar, but Jesus will always be Lord.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 48:20
Yes, you may have moments in the storm and moments out of the storm, but Jesus will always be Lord.
