Matthew 4:23–25Scripture
Matthew chapter 4 23 towards the end it says and he went throughout all Galilee teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.
So his fame spread throughout all Syria. And they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures and paralytics. And he healed them. And great crowds followed him, I would imagine, from Galilee and the Dopolis and from Jerusalem to Judea and from be and from beyond the Jordan.
I want to just kind of go back to verse 23. And he went throughout all Galilee. He went throughout all of Galilee. We're moving into a season now of anticipation. And although it should be a season where we anticipate Christ and his coming and all that his coming did for us when he came and drew near to us, this has this season has been held hostage by Santa coming to town.
And the reality is we really do think and we long for the December date and we look forward to it in great anticipation that Santa is coming to town.
It changes everything. It disrupts our life really. It makes us we for months and now we were on watching TV yesterday and I don't even know why we were watching TV with commercials but we were watching TV and there was commercials playing and we saw our very first Christmas
Introduction
Commercial. Could not believe it. Could not believe our eyes that it is not even through all the way through October and now we are looking forward into anticipation for Santa coming to town.
And on this commercial, there were all these gifts that you could get. And I bet the kids when they watch this commercial are really excited about all the things. And they're beginning to make their list of all the things they want to tell Santa to get them for Christmas.
And so it begins to affect everything. Many of us also exchange gifts with one another. We don't just look in anticipation for the gifts that Santa brings and places under the tree, but we also look in anticipation for the gifts that we might buy for those that we love, our family members and our friends.
And we begin to make preparations. Preparations for where we're going to travel and preparations for what we're going to do. And if someone is coming into town, like family, we make preparations for where they're going to sleep and what they're going to do and the activities. We begin to prepare meals. And when this happens, this preparation happens months in advance.
And we are excited. We are excited that Santa is coming to town. We anticipate his coming. This season's been held hostage by Santa. But this is not about Santa. This season is about Jesus. And the reality is in this text, we s saw earlier in Matthew when we opened it and we were of course out of season, we saw that Jesus drew near and he came to town.
And here he is. He keeps on coming, doesn't he? Now here he is coming into Galilee, a dark place, a place of problems, a place that would be unlikely for a Messiah to go. And here he comes to town.
And it's a big deal when Jesus comes to town because what was once dark now becomes light.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 4:03
And there's a lot of reasons to be excited when Jesus comes to town.
And honestly, we should be more excited about his coming than Santa's coming. Amen. It should stir our hearts to prepare to the same level, if not greater. Yes. When Jesus comes to town. See, the problem I think today in our society is we thought he we think that he has stopped coming to town. That he came to town then, but now he no longer is coming into our homes and entering into our cars and entering into our lives.
And the reality is we're excited about everybody else that comes to town, but not when Jesus enters.
He comes where the broken are. Jesus comes where the lonely live. He enters where sin has set up shop. And when Jesus comes to town, everything changes.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 5:00
He comes into Galilee and he and the blind begin to see. He comes into homes and the sick stood up. He comes into the pain and peace shows up and he's still entering into lives today.
But are you excited about it? Today I want to talk about the gifts that he brings when he when Jesus comes to town. There are three explicit gifts that he talks about in this text that we read this morning. And I want to draw from those because I think it's really important. But before we do that, I'll say this, and maybe this is a long introduction, but I'll say this before we talk about the three things that come with Jesus when he enters into town.
And they're important gifts. They may not seem like gifts to you now, but they are gifts. And if you hold on, I'll share that. When we think about Santa coming to town, what do we what are the what are some of the songs we sing? What is one of the most popular songs we sing? He's making a list.
He's checking it twice. He's going to find out who's naughty or nice. Santa Claus is coming to town. Right.
Here's what's unique and I think that is disruptive about the gospel that Jesus isn't making a list.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 6:35
He's not checking it twice. If he finds out who's naughty or nice, ain't none of you going to be saved. Are you with me today? So, we live in this season of fear and trepidation that my life and my stocking is going to be filled with coal because of my behavior. And so we have installed in the hearts of children and teenagers and adults alike that this gifting that comes by way of your good works.
It has robbed the joy of the gospel. But when Jesus comes to town and this is the first benefit and it's not one of the gifts but it's a benefit. He doesn't make a list and he ain't checking it twice to find out who's naughty or nice. But when he comes and he bestows you with gift upon gift of unmmerited favor that you do not deserve.
No one in here deserves it. And there's nothing you can do to save yourself. And there's nothing you can do to be good enough. He is good enough as he is. And his goodness makes a way for you to be a benefactor.
Point 1When Jesus comes to town, he teaches
Number one, when Jesus comes to town, he teaches. Teaches. Now, some of you might be thinking, if you hated school, you might be thinking to yourself right now, w thanks for nothing.
You're going to teach me something, huh? I hate being taught stuff. I don't like going to school. I don't like sitting in a classroom. I don't want to be sitting in a chair. It's misery to me. And matter of fact, I can't think of one teacher in my entire life that I have ever liked.
I want to roll and egg all their yards. They give me abundant amount of homework. They just tell me what to do. They bore me to tears in classroom. And so then when we see that the savior has come into town and the one of the things he's going to bless you with is teaching, we begin to snarl our face and consider, is this something we want.
We begin to consider whether or not we should reject this savior because of what he offers.
But he is a teacher. It said he went throughout all the Galilee teaching in their synagogues.
When Jesus teaches, he doesn't just inform you, though. His teaching transforms your life. He doesn't just speak to your mind. He speaks to your storm.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 9:24
And everyone has one. Can we just stop here for everyone has a storm and no matter how long you've walked with him, no matter how long you've lived with him, no matter how long you've read the word, no matter how long you've attend church, no matter how long you have read you have diligently woken up and opened your Bible and tried to pursue a walk with him, the reality is that in some nook and cranny of your life, there is a storm raging and he comes and he speaks and teaches and he speaks directly to your storm.
He's teaching you something. His words are a sav. It's why you should open them.
His words bring healing. That's why you should read them. His words change your life.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 10:19
It doesn't just change your mental status, but it changes every part of your life. Amen. He's bringing you a gift and it's his teaching. He knows the questions you refuse to ask out loud because you don't want to be embarrassed to be called on in class and laughed at because of the question you ask.
He knows the pressure you feel to be liked and to be noticed and to be enough. And in the middle of that noise, he whispers, "You matter to me.
When Jesus teaches, the lies that have been spoken over you lose their grip.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 11:04
Culture shouts things over you, speaks things to you, speaks and teaches you in a way to define who they want you to be.
But his truth stands as a piercing factor in the midst of that noise and says something to you different than what culture is saying.
He's teaching you your true self.
Stop scrolling for validation and start listening for revelation because one word from Jesus can change the entire trajectory of your life.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 11:42
Comes to town to teach you. And that teaching is transformative. It's healing and it's directive. Now, let's be honest. We live in a generation that says, "I don't like teachers." We say, "I don't like learning." I now I talk to young people who are still in school, and I chuckle at them when they talk about all the workload they have.
I chuckle and say, "Glad I'm through that, but ladies and gentlemen, you may not be in a structured school environment, but you are still learning."
Yes, we are learning every day. And track with me here. You may not be in a structured school environment, but you're being taught. There are things that you allow into your life that are instructing you. Let me ask you a question. Have you considered lately what's instructing you?
What teachers have you given esteem to and turned your ear to and given your eyes to? The reality is we're being taught by something or someone. You say you don't like teachers, but the truth is you are learning all the time. You're learning from Tik Tok. You're learning what to believe and what to feel and what to think from Netflix.
You're learning from your friends, their opinions, their thoughts. You're learning from your parents. Sometimes you're even learning from your parents about what you're not going to do, believe it or not. But you're learning.
Did you know you don't have to be a good teacher to be a teacher?
Pastor Shawn Gray · 13:48
But you're being taught.
And the reality is most of us have inclined our ear to a voice that wants your destruction, not your well-being.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 13:57
So what is a different about Jesus who comes to town and begins to teach? What's different about him is that he wants to move you from destruction to life in Christ. From death to life. Culture, Tik Tok, Netflix, the world wants to move you from life to death.
Now, think in regards to the time you commit to what teacher is teaching you. Some of us wonder why we can't ever get out of the slump we're in. And I'll tell you, it's because you have a teacher that's moving you from life to death. And you incline your ear to that. It becomes a priority in your life.
And the reality is, I know you think I'm a Bible thumper. And all I want to do is tell you to read the Bible and let him teach you his ways and teach you who you are and teach you what he intended you to be. And Sean, that's your answer to everything. Just tell us to read the Bible and it's annoying and I got stuff to do and I got entertainment to be entertained with and I got I just sometimes I need to decompress and the word is not the way I need to
Decompress. It bores me to tears.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 15:21
But I'm telling you, it'd be better to be bored to tears for a moment and save for eternity than to be entertained for a moment and die in hell for eternity.
You're being taught. You choose your teachers. You have a choice. You choose them. What are you choosing? This teacher's different. We're more excited about Santa coming to town than Jesus because we don't want to be taught by somebody that teaches stuff that doesn't flatter us and entertain us and give us everything we want.
But sometimes what's best for a child is not for a child to get whatever they want.
Sometimes what's best for a child is to get what they need in spite of what they want.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 16:12
And a child might rebel against it in a moment, but thank you later for being that kind of parent.
We embrace teachers. We don't even call teachers. That influencer you follow, that blog post that you follow, that musical artist that you follow, that song that shapes how you think about love, that's your teacher.
The friends that pull you off course that's your teacher. Some of you are being taught how to talk and how to walk and how to live. Who's teaching you? Who's your teacher? Who's your teacher?
So the question isn't are you learning? The question is who's your teacher?
Pastor Shawn Gray · 17:04
When Jesus teaches something wakes up inside of you, the fog clears, the heart
Pastor Shawn Gray · 17:12
steadies, and the truth stands up and says, "Follow me." When Jesus teaches, you realize this isn't just another voice.
This is the voice.
The voice that spoke creation into being. The voice that calms storms and calls names. The voice that knows who you are and still loves you anyway.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 17:33
He's the teacher who never stops showing up. You ever have you ever had a teacher quit on you because you were a lost cause? Maybe that's just me. Sorry. You ever have a teacher get flabbergasted dealing with you and kind of like just write you off and be like, "I just can't wait.
I'll I'll I'll I'll pass this kid just to get him out of my classroom. Jesus isn't like that.
You're not a nuisance to him. You're a priority to him.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 18:17
This teacher is different. Are you with me today? And see, so what happens is we have a hard time getting excited about Jesus coming to town. And that one of his gifts that he offers us is teaching because we have bad experiences with teachers.
The same thing goes for we have a hard time seeing God as a heavenly father who loves us when we had a horrible earthly father. Are you with me today? But be careful to not evaluate the gifts that God brings based on a correlating offering in the temporal.
So don't stop letting the world lecture you about identity when the savior already defined you. Can you can I can't even find a show today. I can't there. Do you know that TV shows aren't even really done for entertainment? There's agenda being shoved down your throat around every TV show. And as a Christian, if you want to have some entertainment, you want to watch some TV, you just got to put up with it.
But if you think that as you're you're a believer and you're and you're grounded and that's not affecting you and you're not being taught something and that's not forming you and shaping you are abundantly wrong.
And you got a choice to make. You got a choice to make. And I'll be honest with you. First of all, step one would be to try to figure out how to get Vid Angel app. Get some of that trash out of your home. That'd be step number one. But now it's beyond just foul language and inappropriate content that can be cut out.
Now they are jamming agenda down your throat and everything. And we have a choice as believers of what we're going to be instructed by. Last night I watched a TV show and I won't tell you what it is because it doesn't matter and probably none of you will ever get Vid Angel because I've been trying to beg all y'all to get Vid Angel and none of y'all done it because it's $9 and it'll break you.
But I will just say this. I'll just say this. $9 a month and we won't even filter that out of our home. But there are some things that I'm watching on Vid Angel last night on a show. I watched one episode and I was like maybe this will stop. I watched two episodes and then I just stopped. And I'm and I didn't talk to Brooke about it, but both her and I kind of looked at each other like, I'm not gonna be instructed by that.
It's sad because they could do a pretty cool show without all that trash being jammed down your throat. Are you with me today? But do you know why they make that trash? Because the ch the church eats that trash. They're instructed by that trash and they choose to pay for that trash. If you stop paying for it, you stop watching it, you stop being instruction instructed by it, you stop paying for that teacher to keep instructing you about that trash, they wouldn't make that trash.
But the reality is the church has moved to a place where you would rather be instructed by Netflix than by Jesus.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 21:39
Sorry, is this too much? And it's a How do I know that's true? Not you. Every other church, right? Why is this a problem? Because you're choosing your instructor. And I came here to tell you this instructor, Jesus, who comes to town, this teacher has something to teach you that brings you life and healing and hope and direction, changes your life.
You need to change your instructor. What desk will you sit at and be instructed by? Because when he Jesus comes to town, he brings teaching. And let me tell you, it's one that's of benefit to you and to everyone around you.
Point 2When Jesus comes to town, he heals
Number two, when Jesus comes to town, he heals. And everybody loves this one. Heal me, baby. Heal me. Take all my pain away. Sometimes your greatest healing is your pain. And Sean, why do you got to be a downer? Why do you got to be a doner? And he cried out three times for the Lord to take away the thorn in his flesh.
And God refused and said, "My grace is sufficient for you." And guess what? His grace was leaving that pain there.
Because sometimes God's grace is pain. And you don't help people when you try to get people out of their pain because God is using pain as a teacher to instruct them.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 23:04
Are you tracking with me today? You don't you may not like this.
That's right. You may disagree with me. This is a fact. And if you read through the Scripture in any amount of time and how many of you have ever sat and you see people suffering and struggling and mourning and they're and they're they're having a hard time and you try to talk them out of their pain when God has left it there.
God is instructing them. Who are you to think you know better than God? Is it bad to pray that God would remove that affirmity? Absolutely not. You should pray. You should pray with them in person. Not just tell them you're going to pray. You should pray with them right now. When they bring their problem to you should pray in the room.
You should lay your hands on him. You should pray and you should beseech the Lord and cry out and ask that God would deliver.
But if he doesn't, know this. God is God and you are not.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 24:07
Know that. And sometimes he will not remove the pain. He will not remove the pain. Healing every disease and every affliction among the people.
They brought him all the sick. This is speaking in terms of every type of infirmity you could imagine. Jesus was healing all of those, not just the easy ones.
So, what does this mean, Sean? What does this mean?
Jesus is not limited by any problem, but he's not obligated to heal every problem.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 24:49
What we see here is that he clearly does. But what we see all the way through all the way through Scripture is that he doesn't always. Should we celebrate that he can heal every disease? Yes. Should we expect that he will heal all of ours? No.
When Jesus comes into town, he doesn't avoid the hard cases. He walks straight into pain everyone else walks away from.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 25:17
He doesn't say, "That's too messy." He says, "Bring it to me." And so, we should bring our problems to him. And let's be real. Some of you have given up on parts of your life. You've said, "I'll always be this way. I'll never change. I can never change." This is just who I am.
But Jesus specializes in the place you've given up on.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 26:01
Have you ever been in a place where you've lost hope in the possibility of the thing you wrestle with most changing?
God specializes in that. And when Jesus comes to town, he has a way of reaching out and touching those places. He just does.
He touches what you hide. He touches the panic behind your smile. He touches the habit you swore you'd never pick up again. He touches the memory you can't talk about.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 26:32
He doesn't flinch. He doesn't walk away.
He doesn't judge. He just reaches out to heal. And here's the part that hits home. When Jesus healed, he doesn't just heal your body. He heals your heart.
Because the truth is some of you are fine on the outside but falling apart on the inside.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 27:01
You know how to laugh in a group and chat but cry alone. What is it?
Wasp. Oh, thank you. I appreciate it. Wasp on me. Oh me. I appreciate it. Thank you. You saved my life. My wife would have done a swan dive off the front of this thing, but he heals everything. I'm going to say this. I'm going to say this. This is such a Can I just say this? It's a very difficult Scripture to deal with, but I'm going to I'm going to try to be honest with you.
Jesus in this particular situation, they bring every single person with every possible disease and he heals them all.
Are you with me? The important part about taking the whole gospel as the truth. So what should we take away from this? We should take away from this not that Jesus will always heal every problem you have. That's not what we should take away this. What we should take away from this is that Jesus is not limited in any problem that's brought to him to heal it.
Okay. Sean, why are you saying that? Because that's is that reaching Contextually in Scripture, he walks into the masses of the ailed and the ill and the and those that are porched on five colonades porches of different types of ailments and ill and illnesses.
He walks through the crowd passing hundreds upon thousands of people, walks up to one man, heals one man and leaves the thousands in ailment.
And this happens over and over again. And then there are other seasons in the Scripture where they bring everybody to him and everybody that's brought to him is healed. So we have to be very careful. So what is Matthew trying to say here about healing? Yes, there is no problem you think is impossible for God to touch that he cannot touch and heal.
And we should celebrate that because we have a God that's not limited by your problem. Amen. Your problem's not too big for God. That does not mean though, however, because he's a teacher that at times he will allow pain to be your instructor.
Some of the greatest humbling I have ever experienced is through humiliation. I don't think it's God's desire for you to be humiliated, but if you are humiliated, mark my words, he will use that to teach you something with it.
If I was never humiliated by anything in life, I would be the most prideful, big-headed, pigheaded person walking around on the earth. And sometimes he has to humble me again and again. Have you ever got you like you've been humbled and you're like, I get I got the point, God. I got it. I've been humbled and you'll never have to humble me again.
And you get bigheaded again. You ever been there? And then he has to. So yes, he can heal. Yes, he can make you brand new. Yes, he can change everything. Yes, you can bring the impossible situation to him. No, you don't have to be stuck in that addiction. No, you don't have to be stuck in that situation. No, you don't have to be stuck there.
God can touch all that.
Shame doesn't own you. Your past doesn't define you. And that's why they brought him all the sick because they realize there's no sickness too deep, no sin too dirty, no wound too old for this healer.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 30:54
And he's still healing today. So, we should be excited when he comes into town. We should be excited when he enters into our home. We should be excited knowing that he is in our midst. We should be excited about Jesus.
Point 3When Jesus comes to town, he gives direction
Number three, when Jesus comes to town, he gives you direction. Gives you direction. And great crowds followed him. Isn't it amazing? He allowed them to. Maybe that's just my introverted self. We can't be inconvenienced by anybody. We pull into our house, our garage swallows us up. We don't have to deal with nobody. We're not very communal in nature.
The reality is we have difficulty in time gauging other people unless it's to our benefit or for our purposes.
But Jesus allowed people who could offer him nothing follow him.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 32:03
That's amazing. Everywhere he goes, life follows. He's leading people. I love that. He's providing direction. When Jesus comes to town, he gives you direction. That's good news. You ever been lost? You ever had to stop on the side of the road and give direction? Now we live, we don't live in a map quest generation. I live pre I lived in the day where you had to pull out a map for that state.
When you cross state lines, you had to stop at a rest stop, get a map for the next state, and track your on the hood. You'd roll out the map on the hood, and you would mark out your route. And if you got lost, you were lost back in the day. Now, ain't nobody get lost. I mean, even Google don't get it wrong.
Get like any you I mean, other than on the office when they run into the water, you know what I mean? But people don't get lost no more. But back in the day when you got lost because you've gone somewhere in some back road and you accidentally took a wrong, you know, your marker, you mark your track marked too big and it marked the wrong road and you're on this back road and you're you've been driving for miles down cornfields.
You're like, I don't I don't know. I if we just keep going, eventually we'll get there. And then you have to find some bod donkey like gas station to stop at to get directions and you go in and you ask and you know how frustrating it is when they give you directions.
Turn by the cow that was wandering by the third tree then turn right by the barn. It's sometimes red, sometimes yellow depending on the time of the day and then you go past the fourth pond and then you turn right and then you'll see a chicken and then you'll know you've arrived.
You ever had one of those instructions? And now young people, you may not have ever experienced this, but I have truly experienced this. And you're like, "Thanks for nothing. I am now more lost than I was when I started." Because your directions did not provide anything that provides help.
But when you follow Christ, he's the shepherd that when you get out of the way, he comes for the one. He doesn't just care about the 90. Now track with me on this. He doesn't just get the one and hang out with the one in the field and they become homeboys. What does he do with the one? Brings the one back.
Why does he bring the one back? Well, because we can just meet Jesus our way in our house however we want because it's me and Jesus. No, community matters. So, he's leading. They're following. Why are they following? Because he can give directions. And these directions are not like the other directions like turn by the cow and the chicken.
These directions take you somewhere to a destination point that matters. He's leading you. He's teaching you. And all the while he's healing you and he's directing you. When Jesus comes to town, it changes your life. Hey, listen.
When Santa comes to town, you get some gifts that will gather dust and go in trash cans in a matter of year.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 35:29
When Jesus comes to town, he gifts you with something that changes your life. These are gifts that keep on giving. Because he keeps on teaching. He keeps on healing and he keeps on providing direction for your life. But here's this. I always have a negative side and a positive side. So, I give you the positive. So, let me give you the negative and then maybe I'll try to swoop back around and do a positive so we can end on that.
When Jesus leads you though and he directs you can't stay where you're at. See, the problem with us is we want to stay where we're at and then go with him, but you'll get pulled apart in the process. If you hold on to this and try to hold on to him, he's going somewhere and he will rip you to smitherreens.
So, you're going to let go of one. You're going to let go of your past or you're going to let go of Jesus because you won't be able to handle the tension of not going with him.
So, you'll either be pulled part of the process or you'll let go of Jesus or you'll let go of your past. But you will do one of the one of those three. You got to move if you're going with Jesus. He'll call you to walk out of a crowd and into commitment. He'll call you to stand when everyone else sits.
He'll call you to shine when darkness feels comfortable. He'll say, "Leave the circle and keep pulling that keeps pulling you back." He'll say, "Stop running from your purpose." He'll say, "Follow me."
If you follow him, you might lose a few friends, but you'll find a future.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 37:15
You might feel alone for a moment, but you'll find who you really are.
Because where Jesus leads, life moves, joy moves, purpose moves, peace moves.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 37:35
He's not leading you into boredom. He's leading you into becoming something. He's leading you into something real.
Following Jesus isn't just about heaven later. It's about life now.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 37:52
It's about walking in peace that doesn't make sense, confidence that doesn't break, and hope that doesn't fade.
When Jesus leads, your life doesn't get easier, but it does get better.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 38:04
You start to understand who you are and why you're here.
And once you follow Jesus, nothing else feels worth chasing.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 38:14
When Jesus comes to town, nothing stays the same. Not the streets, not the souls, not the story.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 38:25
He's not just walking through Galilee, guys. He's walking through this room now.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 38:33
He's stepping past the masks you wear. He's reaching for the heart you've been protecting. So, what do you need him to do this morning? Teach you, heal you, lead you.
I'll say this. When a one of our favorite music artists comes to town, we get excited about that. When Santa comes to town, we get excited about that. When deer season comes back around and comes to town, we get excited about that. When the Chief SE, when the football season's back around, we get excited about that. I'm not saying you shouldn't get excited about those things.
When basketball season comes back around, my son and I get excited about that. We get excited about that. It's fun. But none of that compares to Jesus coming to town.
And he's draws near. He didn't just draw near. He draws near today. When Jesus comes to town, everything changes. And if you let him, I bet he can change you, too. Close your eyes for just a moment. We'll do this. There may be somebody in here, and I'm no, we're not going to do the whole you pray this prayer and you raise your hand, but I just want you to reflect with your eyes closed for just a moment.
There may be somebody in here that hasn't been too excited about what Jesus is coming to town, but you need a new teacher and you know it.
You need a teacher who won't give up on you, who will keep teaching, keep pursuing, and keep changing.
You need a teacher that cares about your life, but wants to bring you from death to life and not from life to death. You need a teacher. Or maybe some of you in here today, you're like, "I'm not sure about that teacher thing, Sean, but I definitely need to be healed.
I've been struggling and I have a storm in my heart and I have a storm in my life. I have issues. I have frustrations. I have anxiety. I have addictions. I have things in my life that I cannot overcome. And unless I'm touched by a savior who cares, who can heal every affirmity, who can change every problem, there is no hope for me.
I want you to know that Jesus has come right into this room. He's drawn near to you. Says in the Bible that if you have faith, if you believe, you place that faith in Christ, that's where your journey begins.
And it's not the kind of belief that's just a profession of the mouth, but it is a profession of the heart. There may be some of you that I'm not sure about that teacher thing. Sounds like a good gift. Wish it wish I cared about it. Not sure about that healing thing. I seem to be doing pretty well.
With my health, with my emotional state of being. Everything in life seems to be pretty good. But you are aimless in life. You have no direction. You're lost. You've been moving from to and fro from one place to the next. Aimless, frustrated, wondering what your purpose is.
Scripture says that there is one that has drawn near that comes to your situation to provide the direction you've never had. And his name is Jesus. And you don't deserve this. If you this morning place your faith in Jesus Christ, you don't deserve it. And don't worry about this. Well, to get this gift, I better have been good.
I better have been nice because he's checking that list to see who's naughty or nice.
Jesus doesn't have a list that he checks to see if you're good enough. He has a list of names of those who are already hidden in Christ.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 43:17
That's the list he has.
That list is not based on your goodness, but that list is based on those who are hidden in his goodness.
Pastor Shawn Gray · 43:27
And today you have a choice to make. And why would you reject this gift? Because in spite of all your failures, in spite of all your failings, in spite of all your issues, in spite of all your sin, in spite of all your problems, in spite of all your addictions, in spite of all of your mistakes, he chooses to gift you with himself.
And for those who believe in him, we're hidden in him that we might have eternal life. Who will be your teacher? Who will be your healer? I think there's a song, I'll be your healer, baby or something like that. I'm sure it's probably inappropriate about a man talking about all the things that he would be for the woman he loves.
Let me tell you, there is no man on this earth that is not Jesus that can heal anything in you.
Only Jesus can do that. Only Jesus can heal.
